Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica residing in Washington, DC will celebrate Jamaica’s 45th year of Independence with several events, to be hosted by Jamaican Ambassador to the United States, Professor Gordon Shirley and the Jamaican embassy in Washington, DC.

The events will begin with a  Jamaica Night at Zanzibar on the Waterfront, downtown Washington, DC, featuring Bare Essentials Band and Sprang International on Friday, 3rd August at 7:00 p.m.

Jamaican playwright, screenwriter, actor, director and lecturer, Trevor Rhone has been voted among the top three all-time Black Screen Icons of the past century in an on-line poll that sought to identify 100 of the most significant international Black/African Diaspora personalities in film and television.

Jamaican playwright, screenwriter, actor, director and lecturer, Trevor Rhone, has been voted among the top three all-time Black Screen Icons of the past century in an online poll that sought to identify 100 of the most significant international Black/African Diaspora personalities in film and television.

Rhone received 10% of the votes to place third behind Sidney Poitier in second place and Denzel Washington who topped the poll.
