Executive
Director of the Jamaica Local Organizing Committee
(LOC) for the ICC Cricket World Cup,
Robert Bryan, has said that Sabina Park and the
Multipurpose Stadium in Trelawny were "ready
for action".
"We can play cricket there now," he
told JIS News. "At both facilities, we can
play cricket."
At Sabina Park, he said, workmen were installing
seats and this process should be completed in another
eight to ten days. "We deliberately did not
put in the seats until all the heavy work has been
done," Mr. Bryan explained.
As
for Emmet Park, the compound leased from the
St. George's College, the LOC
Executive Director
said that the facility was "fitted out" to
accommodate the accreditation centre. "This
has been completed and now operational and other
temporary support services to the stadium itself,
which we are in an advanced stage of fitting out," he
informed.
In
terms of the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium, Mr.
Bryan said that "work is going on and
it is on schedule and so we are pretty alright
with that side of it".
Meanwhile,
the Executive Director expressed satisfaction
about the improvement
work on South Camp Road,
the gateway to Sabina Park. "We are happy
that the work is going on even though it is late," he
remarked.
The National Water Commission is responsible for
laying new sewage pipes as part of necessary upgrading
of the sewage main along the roadway, while the
National Works Agency will take care of the restoration
of the roads and the sidewalks, in addition to
installing new traffic and pedestrian signals.
Jamaica will host four warm-ups, six group matches
and a semi-final in addition to the opening ceremony,
making it the territory to host the largest number
of official events during the ICC CWC 2007.
