Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller Has called on the Caribbean to come together and form a Regional Association

Prime Minister Simpson-Miller addressed the People to People Diaspora Forum  at the Organization of the American States (OAS) in Washington, DC. . The Diaspora Forum was one of the highlights of the conference on the Caribbean which was held in Washington, DC, from June 19th to 21st

Prime Minister Portion Simpson-Miller has called on the Caribbean Diaspora to come together and form a regional association. According to the Prime Minister, this body will speak in one voice as it relates to the Caribbean Diaspora residing overseas.
 
Addressing the People to People Diaspora Forum at the Organizations of the American States (OAS) in Washington, DC, Prime Minister Simpson-Miller said it is important for Caribbean nationals to come together and to now speak with one voice, Mrs. Simpson-Miller said as CARICOM leaders when we speak we speak with one voice through CARICOM, the same must happen when the Caribbean Diaspora speaks.
 
Prime Minister Simpson-Miller told the large audience that in relation to the Jamaican Diaspora that she was happy to report that it is organized and is making significant contribution to the country. Mrs. Simpson-Miller disclosed that the government has been appointing members of the Jamaican Diaspora to serve on important boards in Jamaica, so that Jamaica can have members participating in what is happening back home.
Prime Minister Simpson-Miller encouraged members of the Caribbean Diaspora to invest in their homeland. The Prime Minister said "I want you to bear in mind, that everyone of you here from the region, your first drink of water came from whatever country you were born, you here Americans by choice, but Caribbean citizens by birth." The Prime Minister lauded members of the Caribbean Diaspora for the outstanding contribution they continue to make to their adopted and to their various countries.
 
The Prime Minister Simpson-Miller added "one of the things that is distressing as a leader, is that we do not hear very often of the outstanding sons and daughters of the region making outstanding contributions overseas, but the few that might be involved in things that negative, are the ones that are always being highlighted."she said.
