More than ten years after his death, the late former Prime Minister Michael Manley will create history when he becomes the first Jamaican leader to be inducted into the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame, on Saturday, January 12th.

Manley’s induction, part of the annual Trumpet Awards, will take place at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, in downtown Atlanta , Georgia , following a ceremony at the landmark Ebenezer Baptist Church .  He is being inducted alongside such other American civil rights icons as poet Maya Angelou; singer-dancer Sammy Davis, Jr.; activist Benjamin Hooks; radio host Tom Joyner; and Martin Luther King attorney Clarence B. Jones.

The United States (U.S.) Congress has passed a bill that pushes back by a year passport requirements for Americans on the borders of Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

"The passport requirement is the wrong answer to the wrong question," said Vermont Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy.

"It creates major hassles for law-abiding citizens and communities all across the longest peaceful border in the world," he added.
