Representatives
of the Government and Private Sector of Jamaica recently
travelled to Minnesota as part of a trade and investment
series, funded in part by the Government of Jamaica,
the Private Sector and a grant from the European Union.
Organized by the Jamaica Minnesota Organization (JMO),
the 2007 mission further explored avenues to Increase
product exports from Jamaica and facilitate trade
missions into Jamaica.
The Jamaican delegates were Lisa Bell, Executive Director
of Services, Jamaica Trade and Invest Corporation
(formerly JAMPRO); Claudine Blackwood, Exports Consultant,
Jamaica Trade and Invest Corporation; Philip Rose,
Jamaica Tourist Board; Hernal Hamilton, Jamaica Exporters
Association; Newton Brown, Organic Thinkers and Matthew
McClarty, Walkerswood Ltd. A sampling of Jamaican
Products, some of which were created through the assistance
of Jamaica’s Scientific Research Council, were
put on display for potential customers.
Presentations also highlighted sectors, industries
and projects seeking to establish joint venture partnerships.
In addition, the delegation addressed Jamaica’s
infrastructure upgrades which facilitate growth and
expansion in new and existing sectors. The delegation
met with representatives of the Minnesota Trade Office
and Chamber of Commerce; Minnesota Municipal and Legislative
Leaders; and Business leaders from several Fortune
500 companies, as well as small and medium-sized Minnesota
Enterprises. Macalester College President and Caribbean
Students Association also hosted the delegation.
The 2007 mission cultivated opportunities identified
in the 2006 trade sessions. Jamaica Minnesota Organization
