We
are in the process of completing what we need to
do in order to get them ready for match day,"
Mrs. McDonald informed. She
stressed that only volunteers, who were trained
and listed in the final selection would be "kitted
out".
"When
I say trained, each volunteer was invited to a two-day
training session and we had an extra one-day training
session, and it is those persons, who were at the
last round of training," she pointed out.
A
committee of volunteers has been assembled to contact
each volunteer concerning the "kitting out"
day, as on previous occasions, several e-mails bounced
back as well as messages went unanswered. "They
are calling every individual on the final list,"
Mrs. McDonald said.
Outlining
the day's activities, the Co-ordinator explained
that some volunteers would go on a familiarization
tour of the venue. "We are also going to have
the job specific training and this is dependent
on the area to which the volunteer is assigned,"
Mrs. McDonald said. There will be training in risk
management provided by the Office of Disaster Preparedness
and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
Some
275 volunteers working at the Trelawny Multipurpose
Stadium are expected to gather today (February 28)
for "kitting out" day.
In
the meantime, the Co-ordinator said that several
volunteers had dropped out for one reason or the
other. "Some people had injuries, some people
job situation changed recently and some just found
out that they cannot do it again. We have just accepted
this and moved along," she noted.
However,
she is not deterred by this challenge. "We
definitely have the numbers to bring off the best
world cup ever and to make the entire Caribbean
proud and to also showcase Jamaica to the world,"
a confident Mrs. McDonald said.
