Prime Minister Bruce Golding congratulates Organisation of American States (OAS) Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza on his work to reduce regional conflict. He also urged the OAS to use its position in international summits to represent the issues of small nations. The OAS Secretary General paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister on March 18 at Jamaica House.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has stressed the importance of the Organisation of American States, (OAS) to support the call for stronger regulations of financial institutions that have an international reach.

"There is a need to rebuild global confidence. There must be synchronization of regulatory systems. It will be a tragedy if developing countries become more excluded from global decisions", Mr. Golding said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Wants Stronger Voice for Developing

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Dr. Kenneth Baugh has expressed the view that developing countries needed a stronger voice especially when dealing with the global economic crisis and climate change.

Minister Baugh told visiting Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS), HE Jose Miguel Insulza, on Wednesday morning at the Foreign Ministry, that he hoped that the 5th Summit of the Americas, which will be held next month in Trinidad and Tobago, would facilitate greater expression by developing countries.

Reggae singer Ziggy Marley is scheduled to perform at the White House on April 13, as part of President Barack Obama's Easter celebrations. Marley, the eldest of reggae legend Bob Marley's sons, said he was contacted by the office of First Lady Michelle Obama to appear at the event which is a White House tradition.

Sister Cities Committee Plans to Build Clinic in Mo-Bay

The Atlanta-Montego Bay Sister Cities Committee plans to construct a health clinic in Montego Bay, St. James, to facilitate a more organised and sustainable health care programme between both cities.

Jamaica's Honorary Consul in Atlanta, Vin Martin, told JIS News that for the past 15 years, Atlanta has been conducting its health mission to Montego Bay and it is now time that "we have a permanent health facility in that city, where we can schedule to see our patients more frequently and conduct follow-up treatment, rather than just seeing them once per year."
