Tufton Bats for Cocoa in Washington, Experts Coming to Explore Restructuring

Tufton Calls on OAS to Assist Agri Sector

Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Dr. Christopher Tufton, has called on the Organisation of American States (OAS) to assist Caribbean countries to address challenges within the agricultural sector.

Minister Tufton made the call on Friday (Sept. 11) when he paid a courtesy call on Secretary General of the OAS, Jose Miguel Insulza, at his downtown Washington, D.C office in the USA.

First US Jamaica Diaspora Conference Oct 3 -4

The first United States of America (USA) Jamaica Diaspora Conference will be held from October 3 to 4, at the Sheraton Airport Hotel, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Some 150 delegates representing Jamaican organisations and community interests in the Northeast, Midwest and Southern regions of the United States will convene in plenary sessions and workshops to discuss a wide range of topics relating to ongoing efforts to facilitate the strengthening of relationships between Jamaica and its Diaspora.

Sunday, August 9 was declared 'Jamaica Day' in the United States capital, by the Mayor of Washington, D.C., Adrian Fenty.

Mayor Fenty read the proclamation at a Thanksgiving Service to commemorate Jamaica's 47th year of Independence, at Dumbarton Chapel, Howard University, in Washington, D.C., on August 9.
