President of Haiti, Rene Preval, expresses gratitude

 


President of Haiti, Rene Preval, expressed his appreciation to the people of Jamaica for their support to Haiti when Prime Minster Bruce Golding headed a team which visited him in the United Nations building in Port au Prince on January 14. Prime Minister Golding received permission to establish a military camp in the Capital from where all Caricom aid will be distributed and from where disaster response staff, including medical staff will be housed and deployed. At left is Minister with Responsibility for Information, Daryl Vaz.

President of Haiti, Rene Preval, expressed his gratitude for Jamaica's outpouring of support for his country as demonstrated by Prime Minister Golding during their meeting at the United Nations office in Port au Prince yesterday ( January 14).

Minister of Information, Daryl Vaz gave this update during a press conference at Jamaica House this afternoon (January 15).

President Preval told the Jamaican delegation which visited Haiti yesterday that medical care was urgently needed and he gave permission for Jamaica to establish a military command post in the Capital from where Jamaican aid and rebuilding efforts could operate.

Prime Minister Golding and his team visited President Preval to assess how Jamaica could best support the people of Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake on January 12.
