At once concert tribute, Marley family travelogue and humanitarian documentary, AFRICA UNITE ignites the screen with the spirit of world-renowned reggae icon Bob Marley in every frame. In commemoration of Bob's 60th birthday, AFRICA UNITE is centered on the Marleys' first-ever family trip to Ethiopia in 2005. There, in the capital city of Addis Ababa, three generations of Marleys take part in a landmark one-week event including a 12-hour concert like no other, attended by more than 350,000 people from around the world. Appearing alongside the many Marleys are Lauryn Hill, Angélique Kidjo and Danny Glover.

The Harder They Come

35th Anniversary!
Friday, June 6, 9:45; Saturday, June 7,12:00 midnight

The original "midnight movie!" Billed as "Jamaica's very first feature-length film," THE HARDER THEY COME introduced world audiences to Jamaican music, one year before Bob Marley and the Wailers' debut album would become an international smash. Popstar Jimmy Cliff plays Ivan, a rural Jamaican musician who journeys to Kingston in search of fame and fortune as a musician. Pushed to desperate circumstances by shady record producers, he instead starts selling ganja, achieving notoriety after he shoots and kills a corrupt cop—becoming public enemy number one at the same time that his single starts climbing the charts.

News from Peppy Entertainment & Promotions (PEP)

Congratulations to the following organizations/events on another year of success and community involvement:

Caribbean Vibes Radio
Caribbean American Heritage Awards
Caribbean RIDDIMZ

The holidays and gift giving season is fast approaching.  Most of us are having a constant fight with our finances, and we may be worried about alllllll the gifts we have to purchase for alllllll the people who are special to us!  Sometimes it is the thought that you put into the selection of the inexpensive gift and the words you write in the accompanying card that does it; sometimes you need to use the resources that you have and do things like cook a nice meal and spend a nice evening with a friend just to say "Happy Holidays, I love you"; and yes, sometimes you HAVE to spend some serious dollars - c'est la vie!

Whatever you do this holiday season, remember to give thanks to the Higher Power for all the blessings that we sometimes take for granted, let your special people know that you love them, and save some cash for after the holidays.

The year is almost over and 2008 is right around the corner.  I hope that if you are into making resolutions, you start NOW.  Make a plan, set realistic goals, and dare to dream... Rosie "Peppy" Parke

Ebony G. Patterson - Hybrids
Saturday, September 8, 2007 - Saturday, October 13, 2007

Opening Reception:
Saturday, September 8, 6-9 pm International

Fax 310 829 3164

Based in Santa Monica, See Line Gallery was established in the interest of bringing a wide range of national and international emerging artists to the attention of Los Angeles art enthusiasts. Over the course of the past year See Line has generated buzz in the art community and attracted attention for consistently exhibiting compelling work. To celebrate the success of the past year and introduce a notable artist to the LA community, See Line will present a special event marking the opening of Hybrids, new work by Ebony G. Patterson. The opening reception of September 8th will feature music and cuisine inspired by Patterson’s native Jamaica. Highly respected and widely exhibited in her native Jamaica, Ebony G. Patterson is beginning to receive recognition in the international art scene. Known for her exploration and abstraction of sensuous femininity through Jamaican cultural identity, growing interest in the work of this young, prize-winning artist has resulted in numerous exhibitions in Jamaica and Europe. Accomplished in painting, printmaking and sculpture, Patterson’s mixed media works can be found in both public and private collections. Rooted in an interest in the body as object, Patterson’s representations of female body reflect a profound fascination with the flesh, as well a deep interest in aestheticizing both the little seen and familiar elements of women’s bodies. Combined with Jamaican references, Patterson’s meditations on the body and culture resonate in a compelling hybrid of both content and media – much like the ethnic mélange of the West Indian culture that permeates her work. Patterson’s work can be seen concurrently at the Brooklyn Museum’s Infinite Island: Contemporary Caribbean Art. With this exhibition, See Line Gallery celebrates the completion of a successful first year and reaffirms its commitment to bringing attention to distinctive work from both the US and abroad. This will be Ebony G. Patterson’s first exhibition in Los Angeles.
